Pre-Sterilization Era set. Instruments are marked S&D. All metal saw and the amputation knives have black synthetic ebonite handles. The interior of the set is lined in a light colored leather and there is a smaller , removable dissection kit contained within the main set. That smaller set opens with two slide latches in the front and is also covered in leather. There is a belt type leather tourniquet typical of later S&D sets. The set is complete except for several instruments in the smaller removable box. This set is important in that it represents one made just as the sterilization era was beginning to be ushered in. Circa 1880 - 1894.
