An unusual cased set of 28 amputation knives and scalpels with ebony handles housed in a mahogany fitted case. This set was probably custom made for a particular surgeon or hospital. The set has a list of contents which is handwritten inside the lid. The knives are by two different makers. The top layer of large knives is by Savigny and the lower level of knives is by Evans. The 12 scalpels are by Evans as well. There are scissors in the lid. The inlaid nameplate inside the case says " Evans and Wormull 31 Stamford St. Blackfriars, London circa 1870.
