Civil War brass bound set by Hernstein of New York. Has two brass sliding latches in the front for locking the set. Hernstein made surgical sets for the US army on a contract basis. There are three tiers lined in purple velvet. Contains instruments for amputation, neurosurgery, urological treatment, and general surgery. It's missing the amputation saw. circa 1862 -1865.
