Excellent and complete set by Gemrig of Phil., Penn. The brass plate on the front is engraved Thomas R Neilson. The paper label on the interior reads J.H. Gemrig & Son 109 Sth 8th, Philadelphia. The instruments, including the tourniquet are marked and original to the set with the exception of the scissor marked Tiemann. There is a cased tortoiseshell lancet in the needle box. The key is present and works.
Two smaller sets also marked Thomas Neilson came with this set at the time of purchase and I would prefer to sell them all together if possible. There is extensive paperwork documenting provenance. Dr. Neilson received his MD in 1880 and began practice in Phil in 1881. From 1886 until 1891. he was a surgeon at Episcopal Hosp. He was also associated with the Univ of Penn School of medicine. Circa 1881.
