Two layered brass cornered boxed set by William Snowden of Phil, Penn. Label present on inner lid. Box lined in deep purple velvet. The set is in mint condition but missing several pieces. William was the younger brother of the Snowden Bros and ran the company between 1879 and 1899.
This set is part of a collection of items that belonged to Dr. Herbert H. Flagg. Dr. Flagg began medical practice in 1881. Served in North Hampton from 1891 - 1894 and in Springfield Mass. thereafter. He made international news when in 1892, he healed the broken neck of Michale Mahar of Haydenville in the Cooley Dickinson Hosp. He was one of the first to attempt this procedure by reducing the fracture at a time when the normal course of action was to make death as easy as possible. Circa 1880's.
